Boys are simple

It is what it is. No need for excuses. His characters are always down-to-earth, and he is extremely skilled at climbing. But to be great, you have to write good roles for women. The writing has to be as good, if not better, than for men.

Women are smarter, more complex

Beth in Yellowstone (great character and performance), the barrel riders, the sole employee at the ranch (the fantastic Jen Landon as Teeter), all great female characters who fit into the world of the story in a natural and effortless way. They are strong and compelling. Not just “the partner of…” or T&A. He stepped up his game with the excellent character Faith Hill, broken in “1883”, followed by Dame Mirren in the flop that was “1923”. Now we have Zoe Saldana doing some of the best things of her career.

Truthfulness comes first!

I totally believe she is the head of the CIA in an open marriage (nice touch). I accept De Oliveira as a broken woman with a burning rage who will not give up and thank you thank you thank you to the writers/directors/producers for NOT letting her get the better of a fellow soldier with a hundred more pounds of muscle. I think her character is much more interesting if she’s someone who needs to be knocked out or just dominate the ground before giving in. Now let’s talk about Jill Wagner or should I say her hair? What a turn-around!

Special mention: Mrs

From banal Hallmark trash to super cool specials? I’m buying. Lanier as the evil teenage daughter. I’m looking forward to the established arc for this loose canon, as long as they continue to move away from the cliché of teenage angst. Good actor, could be interesting…
